The new building, now complete, covers a surface area of 16,400 m². It is at the heart of Médiacité, in a dynamic economic and cultural centre. While the goal was to reduce leasing costs and to maintain the unit on site, the building strengthens the RTBF’s own project production and enables it to manage the future of its programme offering.
Média Rives is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and now houses the largest studio in the French-speaking Community. It hosts all of the public channel’s studio programmes and is also intended to materialise a wide range of partnerships which are very important to the RTBF.
Média Rives is a modern company, both dynamic and open to the society for which it works. It is the biggest investment made by the RTBF in Wallonia since its creation and it sends a strong, concrete message about its purpose. The RTBF intends to play a leading role on the audiovisual scene in a constantly changing world. It produces content for all audiences using high-performance technology. At the heart of both life and the city, the RTBF and Média Rives want to mirror the world.
The large TV studio covers 1,200 m2 at the heart of the building.
It is currently the largest studio in the French-speaking Community. And the most effective one. It owes its efficiency to its square shape. The layout is the result of studies, research and in-house experience and provides many assets. Contrary to a rectangle, the square provides four equal sides on which an audience or set elements can be located without impacting movement in either direction.
The flexible space is combined with another major innovation: the powerful lighting hooks onto a platform 13 metres above the set.
The big benefit is that the technicians move the lights down rather than hooking them on from the ground.
